Based outside Chicago, I hand-build every lamp from scratch, carefully selecting fluid viscosities, color combinations, and heat calibrations to produce a specific flow pattern.

What separates my lamps from anything you'd find in a store is intentionality. Each lamp is designed as a piece of ambient art, something that changes the feeling of a room. Whether it's a dorm, a man cave, or a home office, these lamps create atmosphere.

Where to Find Us In Person

In-Person Retail Partner

HEIRLOOM Frankfort, IL

25 Ash Street, Frankfort, IL · heirloomfrankfort.com ↗

My lamps are sold in person at Heirloom, a vintage home goods store in historic downtown Frankfort, IL. It's the kind of place where every item has a story, with rotating furniture, artwork, and handpicked objects that feel like they were always meant to end up in your home.

Heirloom is run by my cousin Melissa Knieriem, who has spent her life chasing down beautiful things with a past. Her interior design background and love of vintage shopping shape everything about the store, from how it's curated to how it feels when you walk in. She opened Heirloom because she believed people deserve to decorate their homes with objects that are actually unique, not mass produced.

It's a natural fit. Stop in, see the lamps in person, and take a look around while you're there.

Got Questions?

FAQ & Safety

Everything you need to know about caring for your lamp and getting the best flow.

Common Questions

Plan for 1 to 2 hours for the wax to fully melt and start flowing. The first 30 minutes you'll see the wax slowly soften and begin to move. Don't be alarmed if it takes a little longer on the first use.

Most standard motion lamps use a 25 to 40 watt incandescent bulb. The heat from the bulb is what melts the wax, so wattage matters. Too low and the wax won't flow. Too high and it can overheat. Always check the label on the base of your specific lamp before replacing a bulb.

8 to 10 hours at a time is the recommended maximum. Running it longer can cause the wax to break down over time and lose its flow pattern.

It's not recommended. Always turn it off before sleeping or leaving the house.

This usually means it hasn't warmed up long enough, or the room is too cold. Give it more time in a warmer environment. If it's been running for over 3 hours and still isn't flowing, the bulb wattage may be too low.

No. Moving it while warm can permanently cloud the liquid or scramble the wax into a pattern that doesn't recover. Always let it cool completely before moving it.

No. LED and CFL bulbs don't produce the right kind of heat to melt the wax. Always use incandescent bulbs at the correct wattage for your lamp.

Safety & Best Practices

The lamp gets warm at the base and the glass can get hot. A level surface prevents tipping and keeps heat distributed evenly.

This is the most common mistake. Shaking a warm lamp mixes the wax and liquid permanently and ruins the flow pattern. Even shaking a cold lamp repeatedly can cause clouding over time.

UV light can fade the liquid color over time, so keeping it away from windows is a good practice. That said, occasional sunlight won't immediately damage it — this is a recommended best practice, not a hard rule. If a sunny windowsill is the perfect spot in your room, enjoy it.

Allow at least 2 hours of cool-down time before transporting or storing your lamp. Moving it warm is the fastest way to permanently damage the wax.

Always unplug first and let it cool completely before touching the bulb. Use only the correct wattage incandescent bulb — never LED or CFL.

Common Myths

It can, but it also risks overheating — which permanently damages the wax and clouds the liquid. Stick to the recommended wattage.

It makes it worse, permanently. If the wax is clumped, give it more time and heat — never shake it.

It degrades the wax over time and is a fire risk. 8 to 10 hours maximum per session.
